About the District
The South Garo Hills District is one of the 11 (eleven) districts of the state of Meghalaya. Baghmara is the headquarters of South Garo Hills district in the state of Meghalaya in India. The creation of this district was declared on 1st June 1992 by bifurcating it from the erstwhile West Garo Hills District. Its total area is 1887 Sq Kms. The district has a population of 99,105. Baghmara is the district headquarters. The district has 122 Kms long International Border with Bangladesh . Majority of inhabitants in the district are Garos. This place is home to the carnivorous pitcher plant and has the Pitcher plant sanctuary located at Dilsa Hill colony of Baghmara.
