INTRODUCTION

The unit of District & Sessions Judge, Bengaluru Rural District, came to be established as per G.O. No. LAW 172 LCE 76 dated 30.06.1978. The Court is functioning with effect from 24.07.1978. The Headquarters of the unit of District & Sessions Judge for Bengaluru Rural District is situated at Bengaluru City and District Courts are functioning in the annex of City Civil Court Complex, Bengaluru.

JURISDICTION

As per Notification of the Government, the jurisdiction of District & Sessions Court, Bengaluru Rural District, Bengaluru is the area of Bengaluru Urban District (excluding Bengaluru Metropolitan Area) comprising Bengaluru South, Bengaluru  North, Bengaluru East and Anekal Taluks and Bengaluru Rural District comprising the Taluks of Doddaballapura, Devanahalli, Nelamangala and Hoskote. Salient feature is that the District Court has jurisdiction over two districts i.e., Bengaluru  Urban District and Bengaluru Rural District.

BRIEF FACTS

At present Seven District & Sessions Courts,  Five Courts of Senior Civil Judge,Three Courts of Chief Judicial Magistrate and Four Courts  of Civil Judge are functioning at Bengaluru. One District and Session Court each is functioning in Doddaballapura, Devanahalli, Anekal Taluks. One Court of Senior Civil Judge each is functioning at Doddaballapura, Devanahalli, Anekal & Two courts of Senior Civi Judge at  Nelamangala. Two Courts of Civil Judge & JMFC are functioning in the Taluks of Doddaballapura, Anekal, Devanahalli, Nelamangala and Hoskote .District Legal Services Authority has been established for Bengaluru Rural District and the same is effectively performing its duty by providing necessary help to the needy litigant public and conducting legal awareness camps very frequently. Likewise, Taluk Legal Services Committee have been set up in all the five Taluks of Doddaballapura, Anekal, Devanahalli, Nelamangala and Hoskote, to provide legal services to the needy people. Many cases are being disposed of by way of compromise through Lok-Adalaths. Mega Lok-Adalath also conducted.All the Courts of Bengaluru Rural District are computerised. Necessary library books are provided to each Court. Good number of cases especially civil cases are pending in all the Courts of this unit, as all the five Taluks are in the periphery of Bengaluru City.
