Chamoli the land of forts lies in the arms of the heavenly Himalayas which seem to be a benediction of earth. A blessed spot, the place seems to have been particularly dear to Lord Shiva. The district is studded with major pilgrim centres like Badrinath, Joshimath and Hemkund Sahib, snow-clad peaks and exceptional natural beauty. Badrinath, one of the most important pilgrim centres of the country, is a part of sacred 'Char Dhams' of the State and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. "Tapt Kund", the holy hot water spring is located in front of the Badrinath temple at the bank of Alaknanda River.
