DIU DISTRICT COURT
The Island of DIU now under the Administration of Union Territory of Daman and Diu situated in the South of Saurashtra (Gujarat) is a Tiny Island called the Island of “Peace and Serenity” The word Diu a word which is derived from the word “DWEEP” which is origin from SANSKRIT LANGUAGE. The Island govern by the erstwhile Portuguese Administrative presence in India from the Sixteenth Century till 19th December, 1961 had a systematic legal influence in this orient having instance court of Civil Judge (Junior Division) and Judicial Magistrate (First Class) in the territory worked by the JURIST from JUDICIAL COMMISSIONER’S COURT OF PANAJI GOA and thereafter under the HIGH COURT BENCH OF BOMBAY TILL 1990. The Court of the Civil Judge (Junior Division) & Judicial Magistrate (First Class), Diu was under the jurisdiction of the District & Sessions Court, (North Goa) at Panaji – Goa. Subsequently, after Goa attained the Statehood the Court of the Civil Judge (Junior Division) & Judicial Magistrate (First Class), Diu remained under the Jurisdiction of the District & Sessions Court, (North Goa) Panaji till the establishment of the new District Court for the Union Territories of Daman and Diu in the year 1991. Since, then the Hon’ble High Court Bombay deputed the Registrar for holding sittings in Diu once in three months for three days till 2005. In the year 2005 one court of the Principal District & Sessions Judge, Daman and Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli was created commonly for these Union Territories. One court of the Principal District & Sessions Judge, Diu in the Union Territory of Daman and Diu at Diu was created in the year 2011. There are Court of the Principal District & Sessions Judge and Civil Judge (Senior Division) & Chief Judicial Magistrate; at Diu. The District & Sessions Court and the Civil & Criminal Court are working in the new building of the District & Sessions Court Complex, built in the year 2001. Geographical Location: The District & Sessions Court Complex Diu is situated out of Diu city on main highway of Diu-Vanakbara and facing Arabian Sea toward South. The Court building is well surrounded with the court campus and it is auspicious.
