Haveri district is exactly in the center of Karnataka with equal distance from Bidar in the far north to Kollegal in the far south. It is also known as the gateway district to the northern districts of Karnataka. Haveri district has a very rich culture and tradition.

     Haveri District along with Gadag district was earlier part of undivided Dharwad District. Owing to the demands of the people Haveri district was carved out of old Dharwad District and was formed District on 24.08.1997.

     Prior to the formation of Haveri District, from 1984 Haveri Taluka Service Committee was functioning effectively . After formation of Haveri District, District Legal Services Authority was constituted and it is functioning from 2002. At taluka level the “Taluka Legal Services Committee” has been constituted and functioning effectively in Ranebennur, Hirekerur, Byadgi, Hangal, Shiggaon and Savanur Taluk.

     Separate ADR (Alternate Dispute Resolution) Centre started functioning in separate building from February, 2014. Independent Member Secretary for District Legal Services Authority,Haveri was appointed and started functioning in ADR building from November 2017.


Main Objective of DLSA and TLSCs

# To provide free and competent legal services to the weaker sections of the society such as SC/ST, Women and Children, Industrial Labourers etc., and to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disabilities.

# Legal awareness programmes are taken up through Legal Literacy Camps, Workshops and Seminars for empowerment of legal knowledge to all the citizens in general and to the weaker sections of the society in particular.

#Resolving the disputes by way of ADR methods i.e., through Lok adalath, Meditation.

     Regularly 'Lok Adalath' and 'National Lok Adalath' are conducted wherein, pre-conciliation sittings between the parties to the litigation are conducted and effort made to reach amicable settlement between the parties. The settlement arrived between the parties becomes a record and have equal status as that of a Decree of the Court. Pre Litigation cases pertaining to service provider matters are also taken up for settlement in Lok Adalath.

     Mediation is a process in which a neutral third party (Trained Mediator) uses special negotiation skills and communication techniques to help litigants to bridge their differences and find a solution to their dispute. Mediation always leaves the decision making power with the parties.

#Legal Services Clinics are established in Court Premises, Tahasildar office, CDPO office, Senior Citizen Centre, Village Legal Service Clinic, ART Centre, Juvenil Justice Board, District Prison and all Police Stations of Haveri District, Swadhar Kendra. In Legal Services Clinics the concerned Panel advocate provide free legal advice to the needy public.

# Front office is established in District Court Complex. The concerned panel advocates provide free legal advice to the needy public.

# Free Legal aid is given to the weaker sections of the society.

# Various Committees are constituted under NALSA and KSLSA scheme in order to provide Legal assistance to the weaker sections of the society and to the Victims .
