History Of Kalimpong
Kaimpong the name has a melody in itself and suggests a place synonymous with fun and laughter, relaxation and peace, gaiety and harmony. As per Lepchas, “Kalimpong” is “The stockade of King Ministers” from the two Tibetan words “Kalon” meaning Kings and Ministers and “Pong” meaning Stockade.Far from the maddening crowds, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Kalimpong is truly a place where one will find the nature at its best which is situated at an altitude of 1250 meters. It enjoys temperate climate throughout the year. It was some what secluded and tucked away in the corner under big Darjeeling umbrella till February 2017 when the West the West Bengal Government declared Kalimpong as a separate District. In the following year this area was transferred to the District of Darjeeling and it was only after this that Kalimpong was set on development track.
