Kolasib district is one of the 8 districts of Mizoram state in India. The district is bounded on the north and northwest by Hailakandi district of Assam state, on the west by Mamit district, on the south and east by Aizawl district and on the northeast by Cachar district of Assam state. The district occupies an area of 1382.51 km². Kolasib town is the administrative headquarters of the district.
Kolasib District was under the guidance of Additional District Magistrate (Judicial) and accommodated under the roof of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Kolasib till 2008. However, it was shifted to the present building and occupied since 31st October, 2008.
Residential Quarters : In concurrence of the Administrative Approval for Acquisition of land for the construction of Judicial Officers and Staff Quarters amounting to
Rs. 8, 00, 000/- (Rupees eight lakh) vide, No. D.11012/25/2010-L&J : Dt. 31.03.2010 with the approval of Planning Department vide I.D. No.G.28014/38/2009-10/SPB : dt. 26.03.2010 and concurrence of Finance Department (C) vide I.D. No. FIN (EC) 2672/2009/L&J : Dt. 31.03.2010; a plot of land is acquired for Residential Quarters as approved as per Award No. 4 of 2010 at Vengthar, Kolasib with a total area of 2008.40 Sq. m / 21610.38 Sq. ft / 1.5 Bighas.
Family Court : In concurrence with The Mizoram Gazette Extra Ordinary Vol – XXXIX Aizawl, Tuesday 23.3.2010 Chaitra 2, S.E. 1932, Issue No. 77, Family Courts is established at Aizawl, Lunglei, Kolasib and Champhai with immediate effect. It is decided to construct Family Court building at the vacant land to the adjacent of the existing Court building.
Computer (ICT) Room And Judicial Service Centre : Government of India sanctioned Rs. 2,00,039/- vide, No.1159/1/6/2008/PS(PP)/3056-3059 : dt. 12.2.2009 for site preparation work of Server Room and Judicial Service Centre and the work was undertaken by the Office of the Executive Engineer, Public Works Department, Kolasib Division and completed on 17.7.2009. Materials for computerization of sub-ordinate court complexes under Gauhati High Court under eCourt Project was received, installed and a report pertaining to the same was submitted.
Fund for DG Set amounting Rs. 2,90,000/- (Rupees two lakhs and ninety thousand) received from the Gauhati High Court, and installation of 5KVA Diesel Generator Set (Kirloskar Green) in the ICT Centre at District Court, Kolasib completed on 11th December, 2013.
District Legal Services Authority : The District Legal Services Authority, Kolasib was established and accommodated in the present building. Lok Adalat was set up at the District level and there are presently 6 (Six) conciliators including the Presiding officer. The Mizoram State Legal Services Authority empanelled two Legal Aid Counsels, namely K. Zomuanpuia, Advocate and B.B Tamang, Advocate for both civil and criminal cases.
Juvenile Justice Board : Juvenile Justice Board, Kolasib District consists of the Principal Magistrate and other two Board Members. Shri. H Lalduhsanga, Civil Judge cum Judicial Magistrate First Class was appointed as the Principal Magistrate.
Smt. Lizzy Lalchhuankimi and Smt. R. Lalhmunliani are other members of the Board.
There is one Legal-cum-Probation Officer and a Counselor and other two Social outreach workers. No separate Court room for dealing with the alleged juvenile in conflict-with-law. Board sitting is held at the Office of District Child Protection Society (DCPS) at Venglai, Kolasib usually twice in a month but depends on the number of cases received by the Board.
