Metropolitan Magistrates Court, Ahmedabad
The Metropolitan Magistrates’ Courts, Ahmedabad was initially established in the Year 1961 with 01 Court of Chief Magistrate, 08 Courts of City Magistrates and 02 Courts of Special Judicial Magistrates, First Class (Mun) vide Government of Gujarat, Legal Department Resolution No. CCC-1060/6147-D dated 29/09/1961.
Thereafter, from time to time, numerous Metropolitan Magistrates alongwith allied administrative staff, were sanctioned and number of Metropolitan Magistrates Courts has increased for the Metropolitan Area of Ahmedabad City, to the present strength of 43 sanctioned Courts.
The jurisdiction of the different Metropolitan Magistrates’ Courts have been assigned as per the jurisdictions of the different Police Stations in the Metropolitan Area of the City of Ahmedabad.
Presently, the Main Court Building i.e. Metropolitan Magistrates’ Courts, Gheekanta, is housed in an Eight Storied –Building, known as Metropolitan Magistrates’ Courts Complex at Gheekanta, which comprises of 25 Metropolitan Magistrates Courts, dealing chiefly with IPC related Trial Court Cases.
Twelve Special Courts, for the Cases filed under the Negotiable Instruments Act are temporarily housed at the M. S. Building Complex, at Lal Darwaja, on 1st & 2nd Floors.
One Metropolitan Magistrate, has been assigned to function as President, Juvenile Justice Board, Ahmedabad, for whole of the District, and it is housed in a separate Building alongwith the Remand Home, for the Juveniles, adjacent to Cama Hotel at Khanpur, Ahmedabad.
Two Metropolitan Magistrates have been assigned to the 02 Municipal Courts dealing with the Food Adulteration Act, the Explosive Act & the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, related Cases, which is situated in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Building at Danilimda, Ahmedabad.
One Metropolitan Magistrate has also been assigned to deal with Health and Sanitation related Cases, which is a Mobile Court & which has its Office at Kankaria, Ahmedabad.
