In the year of 1995 the Tiruchirappalli District was trifurcated; three districts namely Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, and Karur were formed. Then Perambalur District has consisted of Thuraiyur, Perambalur, Ariyalur, and Udaiyarpalayam. In the year of 1996, Thuraiyur was joined with Tiruchirappalli District. Afterward in the year 2000 Ariyalur and Udahyarpalaym Taluks were separated from Perambalur District and Ariyalur District was formed.
In Perambalur District, Perambalur, Kunnam, and Veppanthattai Taluks were formed. Then Kunnam was divided into two taluks namely Kunnam and Alathur.
Since 1897-98, the 2nd class Judicial Magistrate Court was functioning in the Taluk Office campus. Then, in the year 1989, the 2nd class Judicial Court was upgraded with 1st class Judicial Magistrate Court.
The District Munsif Court was formed on 28.03.1981 and it was functioning in a rental building.
On 15.07.2007, a foundation stone was laid for the combined Court building in Perambalur. The opening ceremony was celebrated on 07.02.2009. Now in the Combined Court Building, Perambalur District and Sessions Court, Mahila Court, Family Court, Special Court for the trial of cases under SC / ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Sub Court, Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Principal District Munsif Court, Additional District Munsif Court and four Judicial Magistrate Courts are functioning.
Further, the two number of Taluk level Courts are functioning in a rental building i.e. District Munsif cum Judicial Magistrate Court at Veppanthattai from 12th August 2019, and District Munsif cum Judicial Magistrate Court at Kunnam from 27th April 2021.
In Perambalur District, we have 2500 years old Valeeswaran Temple in Valikandapuram, Egambareswarar Temple in Chettikulam, Kutram Poruthavar Temple in S. Aduthurai are very famous temples in Perambalur District. The famous temple with beautiful wall paintings in Venganur Viruthagreeswarar temple is also present. The family Chettikulam Balathandayuthapani Temple and Madurakaliamman temple in Siruvachur is in Peramblaur District. A/m. Madhanagoplalaswamy temple which was worshiped by 'Pandavas' is also located in Perambalur.
Govt. Jawaharlal Nehru sugar factory is at Eraiyur in Perambalur District. Agriculture is the prime occupation. Sugarcane, Paddy, Cotton, and Maize, and small onion are cultivated here. Wood carvings done in Thazhuthazhai and Veppanthattai are World famous.
There is a 7.5 billion years old 12 feet long stone tree in Sathanur Village this rare fossil that looks like metal without being rocky. This is got a “GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION” of Perambalur District.
Mayilootru falls in Patchamalai range in Ladapuram and Viswakudi Dam is in Perambalur District. There are Buddha statues in the Villages of Paravai, Okalur, and Perumathur.
